Scripture: 1st Reading: Is30,19-21,23-26; Resp. Psalm: Ps147,1-6; Gosp. Accl.: Is33,22; Gospel: Mt9,35-10,1,5-8
The word of God today brings consolation, restoration and healing to God's people. The word holds promise and fulfilment of the promise. Yahweh, the faithful and loving God, spoke directly to His people: weeping shall end; He will be gracious when He hears the cry of His people.
Yahweh will hide no more but reveal His power to His people to guide and direct them in the way they should go. He would make their land fruitful once again, give their land plentiful rain for the seeds they plant to blossom to maturity. Yahweh would heal the wounds of His people and bring them back to life.
The first historical coming of the Saviour, whose birth will be commemorated at the end of this Advent Season, brought all these promises to fulfilment. He healed the diseases and infirmities of the people. He had compassion on them in their weakness and healed them of their diseases.
Our Lord shared His power and authority with those He chose to be His twelve Apostles and the disciples. They were empowered to cast out unclean spirits and heal every disease and infirmity. They were to go to the lost sheep to preach to them for their return to the Father's embrace. They received without pay and they were to give without pay.
His coming brought restoration, reconciliation, renewal and new beginning. We prepare ourselves this Advent Season to commemorate that first coming of our Saviour. We use this season to thank Him for accepting the Father's charge to undertake the mission of saving mankind. We prepare ourselves for that definitive encounter with Him at the end of time. May the good Lord grant us the grace to prepare well.
Let us pray: "O God, who sent your Only-Begotten Son into this world to free the human race from its ancient enslavement, bestow on those who devoutly await Him the grace of your compassion from on high, that we may attain the prize of true freedom." Amen.
May the Living Word of God find a true dwelling place within our hearts and souls today and always.
